Rumors are flying that the library has rejected our offer. I am posting this to let you know that the library has not notified us in any official capacity of their decision. I don't want to believe that library leadership would be so utterly classless as to make and publish a decision to their managers, but withhold it from the union. So until they tell us something firm, keep hope.
UPDATE: Tim has confirmed that he has not yet rejected our offer. He was disappointed with the results, but is waiting to talk to the board before a final decision is made. He is working to schedule a special board meeting. So the administration has not reached a final decision, and that's why we hadn't heard anything.

At today's special membership meeting, members overwhelmingly voted down the library's proposed MOU, which would have saved the library about $150,000 during 2009. Members then voted by a larger margin to pre-ratify an alternate proposal which, if accepted by the library will save over half a million dollars** in 2009. Please note: We voted for this proposal, which offers the library concessions over three times as large as what they asked for during 2009. The ball is in their court.

The library has asked us to vote on the following proposed MOU. We, the negotiating team, find it lacking in several respects, and have submitted a counter proposal. Depending on the library's response, we may be voting on this MOU, or we may be voting on something different.

Negotiating Update
Today, the negotiating team met with the Library's team. Since the heated
discussion in negotiations a couple weeks ago, Mr. Kambitsch has not been
personally involved in the face-to-face conversations. Instead, we met with Ms.
Chibis and the library's hired gun, Mr. Robert Cross. It only complicates things
when you're not dealing with the decision maker directly. If I may paraphrase
Mimi Morris' LTA III
e-mail, "I am always saddened when the Executive Director voluntarily wants
to abdicate his input on things, but we can regroup with him later."
