Some people have been wondering why some of the phone bank dates were canceled. Most of the dates were canceled because they were within 10 days of Election Day, Nov. 3. The purpose of the phone calls being made through Oct. 22 is to find out voters’ preferences and get it entered on a spreadsheet. Then the campaign can do more to encourage the voters who say they will vote yes. If we wait until Oct. 28, for example, to get a voter’s preference, then it’s too late to send them anything. The phone calls also help get the word out by leaving messages about the levy on answering machines.

Towards the end of the campaign, Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, there will be calling for GOTV, or Get Out The Vote.

We did cancel Tuesday night calls, because of location and not having enough volunteers that night. But all the other cancellations were for reasons stated above. The big message is that there are still plenty of opportunities to help with phone banking and the available times are listed below.

-YARD SIGNS

• All 3000 of our yard signs have been distributed to the branches.
• Signs should begin appearing in yards on Saturday October 3^rd.
• Please do not put out any signs or make them available until then.
• Our first priority is getting these signs into people’s yards. Especially patrons who have requested a sign from us via the web site. We want people to see that their neighbors are supporting the levy and the library.
• If you choose to display a sign in a public place, such as near a road or an exit ramp, you are personally responsible for that sign. Make sure you remove it after the election.

• If no signs are available, Library Champion signs will work well as a substitute. Please contact Carl Bach at the Main library for these.

  …and using the JPG of the levy symbol there to create a document.

OK, I get it. People are busy.  But we need to pass this levy or face a real problem.  So we need people to volunteer. So we decided to bribe you.
