Before we start negotiations in May, we (the negotiating team) wanted to meet with you (the members). The meeting will happen on Sunday, April 25th at Arbor Hall. We'll meet at 4:00 pm. We will discuss the library's financial situation and other issues relevant to the negotiations. We also hope to get some feedback (and marching orders) from you, the folks we're representing at the table. So y'all come now. We'll see you on Sunday, the 25th of April at 4:00 pm at Arbor Hall. Hello. My name is Rich Robinson and I'm president of the Dayton Metro Library Staff Association. It is in that role that I address you today. In today's Dayton Daily News, Lynn Hulsey ran an article that contained the following line: "Library patrons are likely to continue to see fewer employees working as the Dayton library uses furloughs to reduce costs." Hello, Library Board Members-
I would like to begin with the recognition that it is unorthodox for me to e-mail you directly. There have been many times when I was tempted to do so, but have refrained in deference to maintaining traditionally-used communications channels. I will not consider this e-mail as precedent setting; I will, for the foreseeable future, continue to consider direct contact with the board to be generally off-limits. That said, in this instance, I am breaking the taboo because I am responding directly to a request from Mr. Turner for union input for the board retreat.

In the February 2010 newsletter, I relayed information about the time and attendance reporting system. Since then, Cindi Chibis described the system in the managers' meeting. Her description caused some concern on our part, as it seems likely that the library's proposed implementation would represent a change in the terms of employment for bargaining unit members.
